Kava (Piper methysticum) is a hardy perennial belonging to the pepper family. Kava has been traditionally used in the Pacific Islands for thousands of years in cultural, religious and social gatherings.The root of the plant was chewed, ground or pounded and mixed with water to make a drink. Kava is cultivated throughout the South Pacific and as far north as Hawaii, growing in tropical to sub-tropical climates; with its use frequent, and wide spread.

Directions
